ââ¬ËOf Mice and Menââ¬â¢ By John Steinbeck Essay
Its like my ends of the week never show signs of change, itââ¬â¢s like an every day schedule being distant from everyone else and cold with nobody to converse with. Books, the sum total of what I have is books, I read so much my head harms some of the time. Line after line, cerebral pain after migraine, in a way demon previously accustomed to it. Itââ¬â¢s a Saturday night and all the men have gone to the prostitute house around or should I say Suzyââ¬â¢s place. I wonder some of the time why I canââ¬â¢t go however itââ¬â¢s consistently the equivalent in light of the fact that Iââ¬â¢m dark. For what reason would anybody need to hit the dance floor with a dark man? For what reason would anybody need to lay down with a dark a man? For what reason would anybody need to drink with a dark man? Iââ¬â¢m just so alone. I really got a touch of organization today from a person called Lennie. Lennie is a tremendous man, unclear face, with enormous pale eyes, with wide inclining shoulders and he strolled intensely, dawdling a little, the manner in which a bear hauls his paws. He came in while I was scouring balm on my back. From the outset I felt furious and that my privileges were being attacked. I disclosed to him that he wasnââ¬â¢t permitted in yet me being a dark man and him being white it resembled he had control over me so I let him in. A major person like him and a slanted man like me I could have never halted him. The main individuals that have gone into my room are the chief and thin and when they have entered I have been weak to stop them. Indeed, Lennie came in and I began to address him on his relationship that he had with George which realty interests me. I was jus talking and he was simply giggling at me since he didnââ¬â¢t comprehend what I was discussing. I asked him what he would do if George never returned, imagine a scenario where George kicks the bucket what might he do, yet Lennie was determined that George would be sheltered and that he was cautious. He began to move toward me and I felt so frightened and little that I reclined into my corner, I revealed to Lennie that George would be okay and that he was protected. I didnââ¬â¢t expect Lennieââ¬â¢s reaction to be so forceful. It jus shows how close Lennie and George are. I didnââ¬â¢t truly need to agitate him yet I did, I simply needed him to feel how desolate my life is. I have nobody to trust in and I just have my judgment to depend on. I disclosed to him that I jus kept every one of my sentiments and my concerns inside and that I begin to feel debilitated on the grounds that I have nobody to communicate my feelings to. Lennie is so moronic to comprehend it felt like I was conversing with myself for at any rate 10 minutes. I educated him concerning my kid hood with the organization of my sibling when we used to live on a ranch and that my dad didnââ¬â¢t like us paying with white kids and that we had one another so we should play together. I didnââ¬â¢t consider what companions I had when I was more youthful yet now I understand why my dad instructed us not to play with them. I was revealing to him this since I needed him to comprehend what life resembled for a dark man yet clearly it resembled I was conversing with myself once more. After I had revealed to him the entirety of this I had a feeling that I had made a companion and that all the pressure I had kept in had left my framework. I didnââ¬â¢t feel so forlorn all things considered however I had a hunch that when Lennie had gone I would have returned to my old ways once more. Desolate, discouraged and needing a companion. At that specific second I felt great about myself. Around 10 minutes after the fact Candy came in searching for Lennie. He looked extremely awkward about coming into my room. I realize that me and candy have been on the farm for quite a while however he has never come into my room. At the point when he came in him and Lennie were looking at getting their own real estate parcel which Lennie had been discussing previously. While candy was talking I was featuring a him pondering how segregated I am contrasted with every other person who have lived in one room however with the organization of one another. I participate with their discussion about getting their own territory, they were extremely persuaded that they would get it however I thought unique, I enlightened them concerning the various farmers that have needed something very similar yet have never to the extent a stage to getting their own property. In any event, when they heard the narratives of different farmers they were as yet resolute that they would get it. I despite everything couldn't help contradicting them, yet when Candy disclosed to me how close and hard they have attempted to get this land I surrendered and inquired as to whether I could go along with them. I didnââ¬â¢t truly have a lot of future on the farm so the idea of being free was enticing. We were all energized and afterward Curleyââ¬â¢s spouse came in as normal searching for her significant other Curley. We as a whole took a gander at her disdainfully and didnââ¬â¢t take any notification of her when she talked. She inquired as to whether we had seen Curley and Candy advised her to get out in light of the fact that she wasnââ¬â¢t needed and that her significant other wasnââ¬â¢t here. I kept myself calm since she didnââ¬â¢t tune in to Candy and she clearly wasnââ¬â¢t going to hear me out. For some time it felt like we had joined to prevent her from coming in, yet she was still at the entryway peering in. At that point I endeavored to get her to leave however she returned furiously saying that I should keep my mouth shut and that she could get me hung on a tree so without any problem. It resembled she tore through my protection. Candy attempted to safeguard me however there was no halting her. We needed to confront it that we were weak to stop her. Cand y at that point disclosed to her that all the men returned from town and afterward she went instantly. I felt so little that I slithered once more into my corner again in light of the fact that I realized that what Curleyââ¬â¢s spouse was stating was valid. There was no reason for retaliating, thatââ¬â¢s one thing I despise about Curleyââ¬â¢s spouse is that she is continually putting individuals down. When she had left George returned. I was gazing derisively at Candy and Lennie despite the fact that Candy had attempted to guard me I had lost all of neighborliness towards them. George saw me like he could tell something had gone on. Following two or three minutes of clumsy quietness they were leaving, while they were going a revealed to them I didnââ¬â¢t need to go along with them on their ranch and George looked confounded then they left. I returned to scouring treatment on my back. I altered my perspective on the homestead since it just appeared to be odd for three white men to impart a house to one dark man. They could turn on me jus like Curleyââ¬â¢s spouse did and I didnââ¬â¢t need to take any risks, assume they hurled my out where might I go I couldnââ¬â¢t go anyplace else in light of the fact that there is such a great amount of joblessness in California. There isnââ¬â¢t a great deal of banks and I would be left without cash for food, garments and lease like the a large number of others in California. I had known about ranchers losing their property and the banks seized their families and were left destitute. In the event that a get left on the road I would be gotten and removed and beaten or taken to a displaced person camp. I would prefer not to be taken to an exile camp since I donââ¬â¢t need to wind up arranging in a major line hanging tight for food. I like the farm since I have my own room, I have loads of assets and my room is slick and clean, in spite of the fact that it is close to the excrement stack. I donââ¬â¢t like the farm since I get left out and canââ¬â¢t participate with the various games the farmers play. I donââ¬â¢t have any second thoughts in life in light of the fact that before I got kicked in the back by the pony I attempted to live my like without limit and the most ideal way I could. Presently they have all gone, I have the opportunity to ponder what has happened this evening and my life. I have the opportunity to consider what Iââ¬â¢m going to do tomorrow. I can peruse a couple of books on the off chance that I please without being upset. In the event that I had the force, I would cause everybody to have equivalent rights, all the white and dark individuals not to battle and cause them to get along together. I would need everybody to have their own real estate parcel and that they could work under their own principles. Everybody to be glad and make every second count, I might want there to be a standard that any dark man could go into a prostitute house and have a beverage whenever he needs and not stress over getting censured due to the shade of their skin and finally I will make viciousness an offense and that anybody that participates in savagery will be sent to jail.

100 Must-Read Lesser-Known Classics
100 Must-Read Lesser-Known Classics While we at the Riot take some time off to rest and catch up on our reading, were re-running some of our favorite posts from the last several months. Enjoy our highlight reel, and well be back with new stuff on Tuesday, January 3rd. This post originally ran August 22, 2016. Everything about this post is subject to debate: what constitutes a must-read book? What does lesser-known mean? What exactly is a classic? Hell if I know. But I thought it would be fun to make up a list of older books that are worth checking out that readers may have missed. Here are my criteria: I decided on an arbitrary end date of 1950, in order to focus on earlier books and avoid the troublesome category of modern classics. (What is a modern classic, anyway? Who knows!) I also tried to pick books that arent commonly taught in high schools and colleges. Your mileage will vary with this one, obviously. But I wanted this list to be a source of suggestions for expanding your classics reading beyond the usual suspects from school. This list is also very much from a U.S. perspective: in other countries and cultures some of these books may be commonly read and taught. But since Im familiar with the U.S. educational system, Im using that as my starting point. So, heres the list! The books are arranged in chronological order, with the authors nationality and the publication date (in many cases the approximate date) listed. Let me know what books you might add, or what books from this list you already love. The Brave New World Essay - 859 Words
The Brave New World has a lot of complexity and topics that are still relevant in the 21st Century. Throughout the novel one of the themes that caught my attention was how the World State uses social programing to structure their society. The society is being taught not to think about change, follow orders, have a sexual life, and be happy by using soma. Sexuality is all over the book to the point were it got uncomfortable. The following quote explains how Fanny is having a conversation with Lenina about how she has been feeling out of sorts. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve been feeling rather out of sorts lately - Dr. Wells advised me to have a Pregnancy Substitute. But my dear you are only nineteen the first Pregnancy Substitute isnââ¬â¢t compulsory till twenty-oneâ⬠(Huxley, 38). ââ¬Å"Dr. Wells says that a three months Pregnancy Substitute now will make all the difference to my health for the next three or four yearsâ⬠(39, Huxley). When Fanny mentioned that she is feeling out of sortsâ⬠it is interpreted to suggest she is not feeling sexual, which could probably related to her menstruation cycle. Franny situation is viewed with a negative light everyone in that society should always feel a sexual desire. Franny believes that she had to tell the doctor that she was not feeling any sexual desire when in reality she had the right to think otherwise. She thought it was the right thing to do, to be happy. Westward Expansion Free Essays
The westward expansion, which started in the 1820s, was one of the biggest steps forward our country has ever taken. It nearly tripled the size of our country and increased the population by monstrous amounts. It also improved the economy greatly though agricultural means, prompted political leaders to sent people to explore (Lewis and Clark), started a civil war, motivated huge amounts of people to move west, and almost destroyed our country. We will write a custom essay sample on Westward Expansion or any similar topic only for you Order Now The expansion was magnified greatly by the Louisiana Purchase, when President Jefferson bought a large area of land west of the Mississippi river from Spain, the purchase added large amounts of futile, unsettled land to the United States. This purchase was made possible by the exuberant democratic belief in the Manifest Destiny. The Manifest Destiny was a belief that Americans were meant to explore the western territories and settle the entire continent this, was strongly believed by most democrats and was a large political controversy. This, as well as making the Louisiana Purchase possible, made it so that President Polk could start the Mexican War. The Mexican War was a war between America and Mexico during which the U. S. acquired large amounts of land formerly owned by Mexico. The war started in 1846 and ended in 1848. The war was prompted by the Mexicans invading the U. S. annex of Texas which even after the Texas Revolution in 1836 Mexico claimed as theirs. The war ended informally in the fall of 1847 when an American army captured Mexico City and formally in 1848 with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Lewis and Clark also made a significant impact on the westward expansion by exploring enormous amounts of land, from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. They were sent out by President Jefferson to find a water route across North America and, with the help of an Indian named Sacajawea, they tried to do exactly that and although they couldnââ¬â¢t find any all water routes they did make many significant discoveries. A few of the discoveries Lewis and Clark made were pricelessly valuable to civilization. For example they discovered at least 70 different Native American tribes and discovered and documented 200 new plant/animal species that were completely unknown to science. The list of different kinds of people who went west is enormous. There were slaves and other low-class people looking for a fresh start, upper/ middle-class plantation owners and farmers looking to expand, explorers and adventurers looking for excitement in wild/unexplored lands, and many, many others. Even though these people were different in many ways they all wanted a fresh start. Now not all of them got what they were hoping for but a great deal did in the end although this brought up the issue of slavery. The westward expansion brought up the issue of slavery. The previous laws allowed for slavery below the 36à °30ââ¬â¢ parallel but now it had to be decided whether or not slavery was going to be allowed in the new states/colonies/settlements. This as you can imagine caused major political differences. It was finally decided that the colonies would decide for themselves by voting. This caused many people to move so that they could vote in favor of their opinion. But this than caused South Carolina to secede from the union and prompted the civil war but Iââ¬â¢ll get into that in another paper. http://www. nationalgeographic. com/lewisandclark à © 1996- National Geographic Society. http://www. history. com/topics/westward-expansion à © 1996-2013, AE Television Networks, LLC. The 1840s was a time of great territorial expansion during which the United States fought to annex Texas, acquire the Oregon territory, and conquer California and New Mexico from Mexico. As the people sought reasoning behind their territorial ambitions, a belief known as Manifest Destiny sprouted from their feeling of nationality as they came to believe that America was destined to expand past the current borders. Manifest Destiny was also a term used by Democrats to promote and persuade people to support the territorial expansions that the United States was undergoing at the time. We will write a custom essay sample on Westward Expansion or any similar topic only for you Order Now Although manifest destiny was a huge motivating factor in the western expansion of the United States, other factors such as the rising population, expansion of slavery and freedom-seeking slaves, the gold rush of California, and new opportunities sought by settlers. The rising population helped push Americans towards expanding westward. The early 1800s was a time when the United States was experiencing a rapid growth in population. The U. S. population grew from more than five million in 1800 to more than 23 million by mid-century. During that time, there the U. S had been experiencing a periodic high birth rate. The growth on the sizes of families only added pressure to expand their land and gather more resources to survive. Immigration also added to the explosive population growth in the United States. Over 7. 5 million immigrants migrated to the United States. Many immigrants fled their countries in order to escape from poverty and famine. The Gold rush also caused a great influx of immigrants as they hoped to acquire some of the wealth found in the United States. Since agriculture provided the primary economic structure, many incoming immigrants would scout for farmable land. However most of the fertile land east of the Appalachian Mts. had already been taken. This pushed immigrants to scout west to look for better land. Nearly 4,000,000 Americans moved to western territories between 1820 and 1850. The Gold Rush of California attracted all kinds of attention from money-hungry miners to hopeful farmers. The first discovery of gold in California in 1849 influenced many settlers and immigrants to flock westward in the hope of gaining wealth. As news spread of the discovery, thousands of gold miners traveled by sea or over land to San Francisco and the surrounding area. The Gold Rush attracted more than just the American people but it also helped the influx of immigrants. Thousands of Chinese migrated to the U. S after hearing about the opportunity to mine for wealth. This caused the non-native population of the California territory to reach 100,000. Many of the thousands of settlers never found gold but helped to promote west expansion. New opportunities were another factor that helped to motivate westward expansion. As the increasing population put pressure on settlers, many of them headed west in hopes of acquiring cheap, fertile land to grow more food to feed their families. Since the government offered most of the land cheap, or in some cases free, many didnââ¬â¢t hesitate to move. Government passed things like the Homestead Act to encourage settlers to settle west. Others sought the chance at a new life. They wanted to increase their political power or standing by owning more land. In their eyes, land ownership was tied to wealth, political power, self-sufficiency, and independent ââ¬Å"self rule. â⬠New technologies also had an impact on westward expansion. New technological innovations helped to influence the economy by enhancing trade and commerce. This proved wrong the belief that, like previous empires, the United States would get weaker with expansion. By the 1840s, steamboats made use of Americaââ¬â¢s waterways and turned them into busy commercial thoroughfares. Their popularity grew as they continued to increase trade between towns and cities. Railroads were another innovation that helped to fuel trade. They integrated eastern markets with the towns on the western slope of the Appalachians. Robert Fultonââ¬â¢s invention of the canal and the invention of the telegraph were two other great examples of the technologies that helped to enhance westward expansion. The last factor that also affected westward expansion was the desire to expand slavery and slaves desire Politicians, editors, soldiers, and citizens, wanted new terrirory for various reasons. In the case of Texas, the Tyler administration sought to prevent the abolition of slavery there, control a potential rival in cotton production, provide a haven for masters and their slaves, thwart Great Britain from keeping Texas independent, and comply with the wishes of most Texians to join the United States. In the Oregon dispute, Democrats hoped to dominate Asian commerce, provide land for future pioneers, and safeguard citizens already settled there. The war with Mexico and the strategy of conquest revealed a desire to secure a border at the Rio Grande, satisfy claims against Mexico, and acquire California to monopolize trade with Asia. Democrats wanted to supply abundant land to the nationââ¬â¢s poor and to future immigrants. To attain this laudable goal, however, they relied on bribery, bullying, and warfare to wrest land from Native Americans and Mexicans. Often idealistic, they were also racist and materialistic. Yet anti-slavery activists and Democrats, whose belief in federal power was threatened by the South, were opposed to any expansionist move that would add new slave-holding states to the Union and thereby upset the fragile balance of power between North and South. After the Mexican-American War ended in 1848, disagreements over the expansion of slavery made further territorial annexation too divisive to be official government policy. Many Northerners were increasingly opposed to hat they believed to be efforts by Southern slave ownersââ¬âand their friends in the Northââ¬âto expand slavery at any cost. The proposal during the war of the Wilmot Proviso (a statement declaring that slavery would not be permitted in any new territory acquired by the U. S. ), and the emergence of various ââ¬Å"Slave Powerâ⬠conspiracy theories thereafter, indicated the degree to which Manifest Destiny had become controversial. The Fugi tive Slave Law or Fugitive Slave Act was passed by the United States Congress on September 18, 1850, as part of the Compromise of 1850 between Southern slave-holding interests and Northern Free-Soilers. This was one of the most controversial acts of the 1850 compromise and heightened Northern fears of a ââ¬Å"slave power conspiracyâ⬠. It declared that all runaway slaves were, upon capture, to be returned to their masters. Abolitionists nicknamed it the ââ¬Å"Bloodhound Lawâ⬠for the dogs that were used to track down runaway slaves. One Note at a Time free essay sample
Black and white. Everything is black and white when it comes to learning a piano piece. Simple little black dots weaved into the 10 black lines, 5 for treble and 5 for base; all arranged on a white sheet of processed paper. The keys, both black and white and glossy glide under my fingertips. I reach for the lampââ¬â¢s knob and twist it. Click, click, click and the white light is illuminated. Gleaming, the bulb reflects off of each ivory key and a glare can be seen off of the raised ebony cover. Searching through the pile of sheet music stacked on the black Grand Piano I notice, placed directly to the right of the music stand, that special piece Iââ¬â¢ve been anticipating. A challenge, most definitely, but a beauty in itself; the composition will be entertaining for me to play and for an audience to listen to. I place it into the caressing music stand. We will write a custom essay sample on One Note at a Time or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It cradles the arrangement for me and keeps the exposition safe amidst the upcoming journey. My hands fondle the music. Analyzing each detail of chords, pedal movement, and the count of each note, I single out the melodies by placing my pointer finger at its location on the music. Then, one hand at a time, I locate their partners on the keys for both clefs. Measure by measure, four beats at a time, I focus on the first note in the first line. Is it a half note, quarter note, or whole? As I take into account the meter time, which would resemble a base or drum beat in any modern song. Take Cyndi Lauperââ¬â¢s well known song for example, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. Four beats in each measure decides a half note held for two beats, quarter notes for one beat, and a whole note obviously counted for four beats. Iââ¬â¢ve determined the meter time and counted out the notes. But what note is it? An A, B, or possibly a G? There are seven different notes; A-G in the alphabet, however, where those notes stand on the staff, the five hor izontal lines where music is written, is difficult to remember. A simple trick I have learned that greatly advanced my note reading abilities are the acronyms. For the treble clef the lined notes proceed as following from bottom to top: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. As for the spaces, they spell out F.A.C.E. The base clef is even trickier, with an acronym for the spaces saying All Cows Eat Grass, and for the Lines, Great Big Donuts For Alvin. Memorization and time has helped with the agility of this technique. Learning song after song makes it easier to read the notes than the time before. After I have read each note carefully and acknowledged where they lie on the keys, I then challenge the brutal chords. These beastly stacks of notes are initially confusing to finger on the keys but after much practice, my fingers comfortably fall into place. Slowly starting from the beginning of the first line, I play the tune until the end of that line. I return back to the beginning of the pie ce and run through to the end of the line once, twice, three times more. Choppy and disassembled sounding at first but by the third or fourth trial, my performance has become somewhat fluid and naturally melodious. I have quickened the metronome on the first line, however, I must continue to the following lines. I repeat my steps of reading the notes and fingering the chords almost mechanically. Progressively moving down the sheet music and onto the next page, I study the music. At an expressly demanding interval, I halt and examine the melody. A mixture of sixteenth notes and rests, slurs, sharps and flats engulf the staff. I practice these sections 5 to 7 times instead of 3 to 5. Little by little my fingers memorize where and how far they must move to get from one key to the next; from one chord to an arpeggio (the notes of a chord broken up and played as a succession). Before long I must advance: to the end. The entire piece welcomes my familiarity with it once the weight of my hand presses down onto the last chord or note. Yet, the piece lacks rhythmicity and emotion. A rehearsal of the entire piece is practiced day and night until perfected. Over and over again it is engaged in recreation if a section requires precision in accents or dynamics. What is the product? A final recital expresses my personality and emotion telling a story dependant upon interpretation. Each period sets a mood of excitement, tranquility, or possibly passion with indescribable blends of notes and all that is known is the generation of pleasing endorphins. Yet, it is still black and white; plain and simple. The melody is fact, and the euphonious chords are unchanging. Harmony so constant and firm would never emerge without any one of the small portions which compose this magnificent expression.

Burial of el greco essays
Burial of el greco essays This painting is the Burial of Count Orgaz by El Greco (the Geek) his real name Domenikos Theotocopoulos. It hangs on the wall in the vestibule of the church of Santo Tome in Toledo, Spain and was painted in 1586. It is oil on canvas and was made to fit the very wall it hangs today. The painting does have a Round top making it a very odd fit for anywhere but the church for it to hang. The artist used many dark shades Blue and blacks with yellow and red in the items of importance and detail. White was very common. There was only one other color sort of hid in the robe of St Augastine,Green. He put alot of details in the things that he wanted the audience to pay attention to. The cross for example on the middle right, the keys to the gates of heaven held by saint peter on the top left and a nice touch with the priest with the skull on his rob on the bottom right. This is the first completely personal work by the artist. There are no longer any references to Roman or Venetian formulas or motifs. He has succeeded in eliminating any description of space. There is no ground, no horizon, no sky and no perspective. Accordingly, there is no conflict, and a convincing expression of a supernatural space is achieved. The painting has a couple of oddities with the boy pointing to the seal on the St. Stephen's robe but his other hand is sort of contorted. The faces of the people seem to be stuck here and there and dont seem to be natural flowing like a crowd should be in the mist of a vision .We get a glimpse of the artist above St Augustines Hat as he looks up at his own art. And the boy is his son turns out to be his son. The painting is very clearly divided into two zones, the heavenly above and the terrestrial below, but there is little feeling of duality. The upper and lower zones are brought together compositionally (e.g., by the standing figures, by th ...

Check out this Phrasal Verb Breakdown! Workout or Work Out Signup or Sign Up Your Questions Answered. This weekend, I had the pleasure of staying in the Hilton Garden Inn in Schaumburg, Illinois.à On the bedside table was a pamphlet entitled, ââ¬Å"In-Room Comfort Guide.â⬠I happily read about the superlatively comfy bed and pillow I was to sleep on and the ergonomic chair I would sit in while working on my laptop.à Then I turned to the back page of the pamphlet, where it said: Workout in the comfort of your own room. ââ¬Å"Do they mean for ââ¬Ëworkoutââ¬â¢ to be a noun or a verb?â⬠I asked myself.à ââ¬Å"Do they mean, ââ¬ËGet a workout in the comfort of your own roomââ¬â¢ or does the Hilton have editors who do not know that workout is a noun, not a verb?â⬠As I read on, I came to the conclusion that the Hiltonââ¬â¢s editors have a few things to learn about grammar.à The first sentence of the paragraph under the headline says: Workout in the comfort of your own guestroom when you check-out our complimentary Stay Fit Kit à ® from the front desk. Oh my!à Not only did the editors miss the fact that the verb to ââ¬Å"work outâ⬠is TWO words (known as a PHRASAL VERB), but they also did not realize that ââ¬Å"check outâ⬠should be TWO words!à You would think that editors working for a HOTEL would know that check-out is the noun for what you do when you check out (verb) of a hotel. Gearing Up with More Phrasal Verbs! Work out and check out are just two examples of phrasal verbs that many people get mixed up.à One of my pet peeves is a phrase you might see often on websites, ââ¬Å"Signup Hereâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Sign-Up Here.â⬠à ââ¬Å"Sign upâ⬠(TWO words) is a PHRASAL VERB like ââ¬Å"work outâ⬠and ââ¬Å"check out.â⬠à ââ¬Å"Sign-upâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Signupâ⬠is the noun for the act of signing up.à E.g., ââ¬Å"The sign-up table is down the hall to your right.â⬠Other examples of PHRASAL VERBS are: Break out (noun:à breakout) Stand out (adjective:à standout) Take off (noun:à takeoff or take-off) Make up (noun:à make-up) Count down (noun:à countdown) Break down (noun:à breakdown) Group on (noun:à Groupon) ââ¬â Just Kidding!!! Foul up (noun:à foul-up) ââ¬â Get where Iââ¬â¢m going here? Dear readers, hereââ¬â¢s the point:à Just because there is a word in existence that glues the two parts of a phrasal verb together does NOT mean that you can glue those two words together and have the result still be a verb!à If you want to use a verb plus a preposition (up, down, on, off, etc.) as a verb, keep a space between the two parts of the verb.à Do NOT stick them together or you will end up with a noun or possibly an adjective.à You can do better than those Hilton editors, canââ¬â¢t you? If you have questions or more examples of phrasal verbs that people tend to get confused with their corresponding adjective or noun phrase, please share below! Wolfgang keller at konigsbrau-TAK Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Wolfgang keller at konigsbrau-TAK - Essay Example Moreover, he does only what is necessary and not an inch more. He is not a man that would add extra value to his work out of passion, a man who doesnââ¬â¢t go beyond the call of duty. Keller has been an excellent coach to Brodsky in correctly pointing out his flaws and correcting them. Coaching someone requires precise measuring of a person to identify the flaws and then mold them. Keller rightly points out that Brodsky is too slow in taking effective action, and this habit of his affects overall performance of Brodsky as manager. The position that Brodsky works at requires not only robotic, repetitive work but requires abrupt changes in schedule and Keller realizes that Brodsky canââ¬â¢t handle tight deadlines. This shows when there is a change in formula or the brand. Distant management style of Brodsky does annoy Keller and he points it out. Keller also spots that Brodsky is least proactive, a quality that is very much needed in these competing business environment. There can be many actions that Keller can revert to upon returning to Kiev, however a certain pattern of actions can be taken that would serve the company in the long term. Keller is not supposed to fire Brodsky, as finding a replacement would be much harder and expensive than working on the current commercial director. Clearly there are many issues that Keller is having with Brodsky but he has the potential to improve as he possesses the right skills for this, only a little polishing is required. Reorganizing around Brodsky would sound better but it is not profitable. Market movements and competition donââ¬â¢t revolve around people. They have a mind of their own, its the company people that need to depend on the movement and adjust their actions accordingly. Split marketing and sales is a better option as it will help adjust to the business environment as well as adjustments within the work area. This would require giving Brodsky another chance, and a chance to

Comparison between SAP system and Microsoft Dynamics Research Paper
Comparison between SAP system and Microsoft Dynamics - Research Paper Example Additionally, the majority of business organizations adopts ERP solutions offered by SAP Corporation. In view of the fact these systems are costly and are designed to be used for large size business organizations therefore it is assumed that they are not suitable for small and medium-size business organizations (Park & Lee, 2006; Khaleel & Sulaiman, 2013). In this scenario, Microsoft a giant organization of IT industry has introduced some enterprise resource planning systems known as Microsoft Dynamics enterprise resource planning business solution software which provides an excellent support and wonderful capabilities to business organizations by allowing them to be more creative and allows them to acclimatize as they develop, at the same time as providing the insight they need to act in response rapidly in an ever-changing business environment (Microsoft1, 2013). ... This comparison will be on the basis of cash flow management function. SAPââ¬â¢s ERP System SAP ERP Central Component (or simply ECC) is one of the well-known assets of SAP Corporation. Basically, it is an ERP application (enterprise resource planning software) that is composed of a large number of modules that provide the business organizations with a great deal of control over their major business procedures. In this scenario, these modules are designed in a way that they are able to communicate with each other with the purpose of creating and maintaining a completely integrated system that offers superior performance to almost every client inside a broad range of industry areas. However, the management of business operations using SAP ECC applications can be challenging because of the risk that appears due to transformation of direct fundamental information and procedures, however the significance of counting through these types of systems and the advantages of a flourishing/in tegrated ERP application are too important. In view of the fact that it integrates a large number of modules for a variety of purposes such as financials (FI), sales and distribution (SD), material management (MM), human capital management (HCM), and a number of others, thatââ¬â¢s why SAP ECC is one of the most attractive choices for the majority of business organizations (CIPHER Business Solutions, 2013; SAP1, 2013; F5 Networks, Inc., 2013). In addition, SAP ECC business system solutions can be an excellent option for those business organizations that are in search of a complete, integrated industry application to have full control over their

Importance of the Friars in Much Ado About Nothing and Measure for Meas
Importance of the Friars in Much Ado About Nothing and Measure for Measure In the plays Much Ado About Nothing and Measure for Measure, the friars are important instruments in their respective storyline because of their assumed pure intentions of using deception as a means to right the wrong-doing within the play. They have the authority to administer questionable plans of action because they are respected and trusted. The friars hear all of the confessions; therefore, they could know even the deepest of secrets. The friars, or "Fathers" take on a protective role, a paternal one. They seem to relate more with the youth, or the wronged, who become like children needing guidance in their vulnerable states. When the parents, or as in Measure for Measure, Angelo, must be contradicted, the next highest up in the chain of command is the friar. The friars assume these authoritative roles with great conviction. They seem to believe that they must protect their sheep and fight evil. Friar Francis of Much Ado About Nothing believes himself to serve as a means for jus tice, "Craft against vice I must repay" (3.1.57). In a different realm of justice, within different scales of measurement, the Friars offer their non-doctrinal mode of deception to set the world (of the play) in harmony. In Much Ado About Nothing, Friar Francis suggests a peculiar solution to amend a horrible situation in which the bride was shamed and jilted. Friar Francis seemed to be the only male who pulled for Hero's honor. He believed her when her father did not and vied for her innocence when he said, "Trust not my age, / My reverence, calling, nor divinity/ If this sweet lady lie not guiltless here/ Under some biting error" (4.1.166-9). He advised that she prete... ...acilitators when they are the only characters whose authority never is questioned. Only they can pull off the deceptive schemes that they do because no one else in the play either can be trusted, or is not in a position of power as the friars are. Friar Francis and Friar Lodowick are not despised in the end because their religious positions allow for them to be trusted in making a just and right decision. The friars restored order. Within the system of justice in which the friars operate it is not only just, but necessary, to sin by lying and deceiving, in order for love and harmony to prevail. It then becomes a question of not whether these holy men abuse Christian dogma, but on their intent behind the deceit. Thus "craft against vice" is the powerful system which allows for discrepancy concerning sin in order to combat the havoc caused by deception by evil intent.

Depending on the level of success youââ¬â¢re seeking to achieve, the level of education may be relative, but the bottom line is, an education of some sort is often paramount to future success. Completing increasingly advanced levels of education shows that you have a drive and commitment to learn and apply information, ideas, theories, and formulas to achieve a variety of tasks and goals. Subject Matters: Probably the most obvious reason education is important is to acquire the subject matter and basic knowledge needed to get by in everyday life. For example: English and language skills: English and language skills will help you to communicate your ideas more clearly. Communication skills are essential in any role ââ¬â whether youââ¬â¢re dealing with co-workers, patients, customers, or supervisors, you will need to effectively convey your plans, ideas, goals, and such. Math and science skills: Although calculators and computers are readily accessible, you still need to learn how to do basic computations and calculations on paper or in your head. If you are calculating dosages, counting surgical supplies, or tallying sales, math skills are imperative for a career, and for life. Cooking, shopping, driving, and many other everyday activities require math skills as well, regardless of your career choice. Apply for 2014, 3rd Session Intake The more you LEARN, the more you EARN: Have you ever noticed that the word LEARN contains the word EARN? Perhaps that is because the higher level of education you achieve, the higher level of income you are likely to command as well. For example, consider the following health careers and the educational requirements as they relate to annual income: Medical jobs, no college degree: Pay $20,000-40,000 annually, on average Allied Health Careers, two years of college: Pay from $40,000-60,000 annually. Nursing Careers, Associateââ¬â¢s or Bachelor Degree: Pay $40,000-55,000 on average annually. Advanced Nursing Careers, Masterââ¬â¢s Degree required: Pay $60,000-90,000+ annually. Pharmacist, Bachelorââ¬â¢s, + PharmD: Pay $90,000-115,000 annually. Physician, Medical Doctorate required: Pay $120,000-$500,000+ annually Are you seeing the trend here? Clearly, education is important for financial growth in the healthcare field, as with many other careers. Many Employers Now Require Education for Employment: Another primary reason education is important, is that itââ¬â¢s become a basic requirement for so many employers, to even get your foot in the door. Many employers require college level education, even for roles which previously did not require it, such as administrative assistant positions. The fewer years of education youââ¬â¢ve completed, the fewer doors are open to you. Itââ¬â¢s that simple. Educational requirements are a quick and easy way to narrow down the field of applicants, especially in situations where there are more applicants than jobs. When hiring from a field of candidates, employers prefer those who have completed the higher level of education. Why has education become so important to employers? In working with hiring managers to conduct candidate searches, it seems that the education requirement has become a barrier for entry into many careers, because education allows you to: Learn how to learn. School teaches you how to gather, learn, and apply knowledge. No matter what career you choose, you will need to learn procedures, information, and skills related to your job, and execute tasks based on that information and training. Develop interpersonal skills. School allows you to interact with other people and refine your communication skills, including those of persuasion, conflict resolution, and teamwork. Learn time and task management. Learn how to manage projects, deadlines, and complete assignments efficiently and effectively. Learn from experience of others. By attending school, you are able to learn from the experience and intellect of thousands of people who have gone before you. In just a few years, through your textbooks, research, and class lessons, school gives you a consolidated overview of theories, formulas, ideologies, and experiments conducted by generations of scientists, philosophers, mathematicians, historians, and other experts. While gaining your own personal work experience is helpful too, a formal education is a way to learn from centuries of othersââ¬â¢ life and work and academic experience before you. As you can see, education is important to everyone, but education is even more important in the healthcare industry. Why? Technology, math and science are key components of many healthcare roles: Healthcare careers often require knowledge and understanding of the sciences, and technology. These fields are always changing and growing with new developments and discoveries. Therefore itââ¬â¢s imperative to have a basic understanding you can build on with continuing education throughout your career, to keep up with the latest changes and new information. Health professionals have a huge responsibility for the health, well-being, and survival of others. Therefore, health professionals must be particularly adept and relating to other people, learning and gathering information about a patient, and applying it to the treatment and care of that patient based on medical knowledge. For many healthcare roles, degrees and certifications are required for licensure to practice in a certain capacity. Many allied healthcare jobs require at least an associateââ¬â¢s degree, most nurses need bachelorââ¬â¢s degrees, and physicians and advanced practice nurses must have many years of post-graduate training to include masterââ¬â¢s and doctorate degrees. This might build in you the question as to why everyone is running behind education? What is it that makes us bind to education and makes it the center of attraction to all the aristocrats, law makers, parents and elders? Education isnââ¬â¢t about my marks or your standard its about knowledge and how well you are aware of the happenings around you. A person who is awakened knows whatââ¬â¢s best for him/her, knows the difference between right and wrong and thatââ¬â¢s when he is known as educated. 10. SOCIETY society We live in an ever progressing and developing society. Education in this society is not only a demarcation of the wealthy and poor but also of the uneducated and educated. Your reputation and social image is dependent on your educational qualifications. More than your salary, caste, creed or religion, people care about your degree for it demarks you from the rest. Society is also a cluster of different people, to deal with each we need knowledge of the system as well as our rights and duties which is only taught to us through different mediums of education. This helps us become a member of the society we live in and participate actively in the changes and development required in the society. 9. THE DIFFERENCE the difference. For education also makes us gain the knowledge of differentiating between different aspects of work, life and curriculum. For a person who isnââ¬â¢t educated he/she cannot discriminate as to when he is being fooled or when the stats are true. Country works on a certain curriculum, to follow those routes like in banks, government offices and day to day needs we need to be educated so that no one can hoax us with their knowledge. Your way of talking, perception and interaction in a social gathering shall always stand out compared to the one who is illiterate. 8. NOBODY CAN FOOL YOU nobody can fool you. The lower class of the society is often faced with the issue of not being literate like those who are more privileged, living in urban dynasties. Hence often the selfish urban tend to use the innocence and illiteracy of the uneducated in their favor. Often we come across cases where the farmers sign across wrong papers and have to face long life penalty for giving their land to someone else. This is only because the farmer is illiterate and hence can be easily fooled by words. Whereas an educated person is smart enough to demarcate the cunningness of those around and is less probable to be shot by such cases. 7. INDEPENDENT independent Education makes your growth optimum and helps you become independent to start your own life. It makes you reliable on your instincts and knowledge to take the right decision that does not harm your image and respect. An independent thought process is developed when your brain is open to all the forms of life and knowledge about how advanced the world has become and you witness the improvement in lifestyle. This makes you create your own mentality rather than being a herd follower of your ancestors it also gives you a broader outlook towards life and your career. 6. KNOWLEDGEABLE knowledgable. Education makes you knowledgeable, it makes you stand tall in a discussion and participate enthusiastically with no shame of going dumb. Knowledge makes you aware, potentially updated and also open minded. A person who lacks knowledge is considered to be foolish and regarded as either a learner or an illiterate. Though knowledge might turn to against you if not used in the best of intentions and calibre. 5. STABILITY stability When you are educated, you shall get a job easily. A career can be established by your credits and achievements in the educational field. This not only makes you independent but also helps you create a living. Stability comes when you are on your own, this cannot be achieved until you can excel in all forms and fields with a rigorous effort on scrubbing your caliber. We are all blank frames until and unless a drawing is not drawn, the frame shall remain un noticed and blank. If it is a good image, carefully drawn, specialized by critics the final result shall be explicit compared to rough drawings done by an un- experienced artist hence to be stable and be valued by the world we need education. Education shall support our endeavor and also speak on our behalf of our credits. 4. LIVING living. For a living, it has become mandatory for a citizen to be educated. Not only they are termed as barriers or qualifications to cross before coming in for an interview, but education also decides your performance in an interview. An educated person is aware of his surroundings and therefore can give explicit answers to questions asked whereas an illiterate might not be able to comprehend the questions that shall be bombarded on him. Moreover to apply for a job, the educational qualifications of a student act as the eligibility criteria which is must before the student is able to fill an application. Education opens to the world of our own where we can earn and form a living for ourselves. 3. SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG right and wrong To know if you are right, you should might as well know, WHAT IS RIGHT? If we go by terms of what people say there will be a huge confusion in our understanding, leading us to unwanted and fraud situations. This can only be corrected or check if we are educated enough to not be waved away. When a small child is given a toffee, he/she accepts it without understanding its ingredients, taste or what it might do to their health. Though if the same toffee is given to an educated person, he/she can sense the difference by checking their ingredients, taste or smell. This is because experience can education has made them aware of the difference between right and wrong. 2. WISDOM wisdom Education is often compared with wisdom. A person who is educated has wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom to know the correct and knowledge to reason it. Wisdom acts as the stepping stone during a personââ¬â¢s growth. A matured person is often considered to have more wisdom than a teenager because he/she has faced the cons of life and come out with experience that make them smart, careful and aware. These things can be taught to you in school/ colleges or by your parents or by personal experience but when we lack the urge to learn it is then that are downfall starts. 1. CAREER career A career makes our identity, it also decides our work frame, area of interest, caliber and future. This career holds true only when a person is educated. Education gives him/her the knowledge of their field so that they can pursue the career of their interest full fledged. On the contrary those who are illiterate are considered for labor jobs which do not require understanding, knowledge or development. They act as a source to the needs of the educated. Hence to have a secure and balanced career we need to work hard, learn new things, gain knowledge, spread our experience, help the society and become educated.
